Understanding incidents

How incidents are detected and created.

Overview

An incident is a span of time when a monitor was down. It opens on the first failed check and closes when the monitor passes again (or when someone closes it manually).

When incidents are created

Incidents are created when:

  • An HTTP monitor receives an unexpected status code
  • A ping or port monitor fails to connect
  • A monitor times out without response
  • Infrastructure thresholds are exceeded

Incident states

  • Active: The monitor is currently down
  • Resolved: The monitor has recovered
