Checkmate is an open-source infrastructure monitoring platform built by Bluewave Labs and a growing community of contributors who think monitoring should be transparent, accessible, and powerful.
Every team we talked to had the same story. They started on a free monitoring tier, outgrew it in a quarter, and ended up either paying per-host for a commercial tool or wiring up their own Prometheus stack on a Friday night. Neither felt great.
Checkmate is the middle path. It's a single self-hosted binary plus a couple of containers. It does uptime, page speed, hardware, Docker, and status pages out of the box. It doesn't phone home. It doesn't meter monitors. And under AGPL-3.0, the code is yours to read, fork, and audit.
The project lives on GitHub. A hundred and thirty-eight people have contributed so far — translations, bug fixes, new monitor types, documentation. If you end up being the next one, we'd love that.
Started as an internal tool at Bluewave Labs.
Released under AGPL-3.0 license.

Bluewave Labs is a software development company focused on building open-source tools for developers and teams. We believe in community-driven software — the kind where the roadmap shows up in GitHub issues before it shows up on a slide.
Checkmate is one of several open-source projects we maintain, and we're grateful for the community that has helped shape it.
