Sponsor a feature

Build what matters, faster.

Checkmate is growing with the community. While we've got a clear roadmap, sometimes our users need something sooner. That's where Sponsored Features come in.

What is a Sponsored Feature?

A Sponsored Feature is a product feature you'd expect to see in our roadmap eventually—but a company helps fund its development to get it built sooner.

You're not buying a custom fork. You're backing something useful to the wider Checkmate community, and we're committing to maintaining it just like every other core feature.

How it works

You bring the need

Something you'd like to see in Checkmate that aligns with our direction.

We scope and price it

Most sponsored features start at $190/day, depending on complexity.

You sponsor the dev time

We build it, test it, and merge it upstream.

You get early access

Once shipped, you'll be the first to use it, and it'll be part of future releases.

Why we do it?

Faster delivery of features you care about
Shared ownership over what gets built
No vendor lock-in: It's all open source, you benefit without losing flexibility
Roadmap alignment: We only take on features that make sense for the project

Important considerations

We know that Sponsored Features can be incredibly powerful and we're here to help.

We know that they require focus and follow-through—once it's sponsored, we're committing to deliver it.

It impacts our roadmap, since we'll be transparent about any trade-offs involved. If we are not sure about including it in the next release, we'll inform you right away.

Adding devs isn't always plug-and-play. Your funding doesn't instantly scale our team, but it helps us move with confidence.
